ADA Accessible Portable Toilet Rental
Wheelchair-accessible units with ground-level entry and interior turning clearance — required at most events open to the public.
What It Is
An ADA accessible portable toilet is a wider unit built so a wheelchair user can enter, turn and transfer independently. The defining features are a ground-level entry with no step, a wide outward-swinging door, interior grab bars and enough clear floor space to turn.
If your event is open to the public, accessible units are generally not optional. Permit reviewers commonly check for them, and the requirement traces back to the ADA Standards for Accessible Design rather than to any individual rental company's policy.
Why It Works
Ground-level entry
No step or threshold to cross, which is what makes the unit usable by a wheelchair or walker without assistance.
Interior turning clearance
The wider floor plan provides room to turn and transfer, which a standard stall cannot accommodate.
Grab bars fitted
Interior grab bars support transfer and are a standard fitting on accessible units.
Works as a family stall
The extra space also suits caregivers, parents with small children and anyone needing assistance.
Who It Is For
- Any event open to the general public.
- Permitted festivals, fairs, races and parades.
- Municipal, school and government-hosted events.
- Construction sites with accessible-route obligations.
- Private events wanting to accommodate all guests.
What To Know
Accessible units need an accessible route
The unit itself is only half of it — the path to it must also be firm, stable and level. Placing an accessible unit at the end of a gravel run undoes the point.
Ratios are set by your permit
A commonly applied planning figure is one accessible unit per twenty standard units, with at least one on site. Your permitting authority sets the binding number, so check the permit conditions.
They need more space on site
The larger footprint and the outward door swing both need clearance. Allow more room than you would for a standard stall.
